Prosonic S HART Multi-Drop Address Configuration Overview
In industrial sites, the HART protocol is commonly used for communication with smart instruments. For the Prosonic S series (FMU40/FMU41/FMU42/FMU44), when multiple devices are connected to the same loop, a unique multi-drop address (Polling Address) must be set for each device to avoid communication conflicts. This article will guide you through the configuration.
Configuration Steps
Hardware Connection
Ensure that the transmitter is properly powered and connected to the HART loop. Typically, a HART communicator or PC commissioning software (such as FieldCare) is used for configuration.
Software Settings
Use the commissioning tool to enter the device menu, find HART communication settings, and modify the Polling Address. The address range is usually 0 to 63; address 0 indicates point-to-point mode, and 1 to 63 indicates multi-drop mode.
- Connect the commissioning tool to the HART loop.
- Enter the device setup menu and select the "Communication" or "HART" option.
- Set the Polling Address to a unique value (e.g., 1, 2, 3...).
- Save the settings and restart the device to make the configuration effective.
Precautions
- In multi-drop mode, the loop current is fixed at 4 mA, and devices communicate via digital signals.
- Ensure that each device has a unique address; otherwise, communication will fail.
- After changing the address, rescan the devices to identify the new address.
