LDO10103 Rugged Dissolved Oxygen Electrode Overview
LDO10103 is a standard dissolved oxygen electrode launched by Hach, equipped with a 3-meter cable. It features a rugged design and is suitable for laboratory and field testing. This electrode is based on the fluorescence measurement principle and is used with the LDOTM portable dissolved oxygen meter to quickly and accurately measure the dissolved oxygen concentration in water.
Fluorescence Measurement Principle
The surface of the LDO sensor is covered with a layer of fluorescent material. When illuminated by blue LED light, the fluorescent material is excited and emits red light. The higher the oxygen concentration in the water, the shorter the red light release time. The instrument determines the red light release time to establish a correlation with the dissolved oxygen concentration and directly displays the measured value.

Operating Environment Requirements
The LDO probe is suitable for water sample measurement in municipal wastewater, industrial wastewater, drinking water, environmental monitoring, education, scientific research, and other fields.
Turning On the Instrument

- A new LDO probe requires the sensor cap to be installed before use, then the light shield. A probe without the sensor cap must not be directly inserted into the water sample.
- When a new instrument is powered on for the first time, it displays a prompt to connect the probe. First press the option key to set the date and time, then connect the new probe.
Instrument Operation
Sample Measurement
The calibration data of the LDO dissolved oxygen probe's sensor cap is already included in the button battery iButton, so users can measure directly without calibration. Place the probe into the water sample and press the green key to read the data.
Probe Calibration
If self-calibration is needed, a user method can be set. Press the option key, select "LDO101 method > Save Current Method As", and save a new method (e.g., method 1). Then press the option key, select "LDO101 method > Modify Current Method > Calibration", and set the calibration data to "User" to perform calibration.
Usually, the water-saturated air method is chosen: prepare a glass bottle, add a small amount of water, shake it, and insert the LDO probe. The sensor cap must not touch the water surface. Press the blue key and follow the on-screen prompts to complete calibration.
Replacing the Sensor Cap
The sensor cap needs to be replaced once a year to ensure measurement accuracy. The new sensor cap comes with a button battery containing calibration data, and measurement can be resumed immediately after replacement.

The option key can be used to set the display, sound, temperature unit, reading mode, etc. For details, refer to the instrument manual.
Instrument Maintenance and Precautions
- The probe sensor cap needs to be replaced once a year.
- After measurement, clean the LDO probe promptly, wipe it dry, and store it.
- Do not use sharp objects or organic solvents during cleaning, as they may scratch or detach the fluorescent layer.
- Do not expose the sensor cap directly to the sun; use the light shield to extend its lifespan.
