1. Overview of FTE20 Rotary Paddle Level Switch
The FTE20 rotary paddle level switch is an explosion-proof level switch used for level detection of solid particles or powders. It drives a paddle to rotate via a micro motor. When the paddle contacts material and is obstructed, the mechanism displaces and triggers a micro switch, outputting a switching signal. This product is widely used for high/low level alarm or control in silos in industries such as chemicals, grain, cement, and metallurgy.

3. FTE20 Installation Steps
3.1 Pre-installation inspection
- Confirm that there is no pressure and no hazardous material residue inside the silo.
- Check whether the paddle is deformed and whether it rotates flexibly.
- Verify that the explosion-proof rating matches the on-site hazardous area.
3.2 Installation position selection
- Avoid installing directly below the feed inlet to prevent material from directly impacting the paddle.
- For horizontal installation, the paddle should extend into the silo to ensure reliable contact with the material.
- For high-level detection, it is recommended to install at the top of the silo; for low-level detection, install on the lower part of the side wall.
3.3 Mechanical installation
- Align and tighten the process connection thread or flange with the silo interface.
- Use a wrench to tighten to ensure reliable sealing and prevent dust leakage.
- Adjust the paddle direction so that its rotation plane is perpendicular to the material flow direction.
4. FTE20 Electrical Wiring and Commissioning
4.1 Wiring method
- Open the explosion-proof junction box and connect the power and output signal wires according to the terminal markings.
- It is recommended to use shielded cable for the power line, with the shield grounded at one end in the safe area.
- After wiring is completed, tighten the junction box cover to ensure the flameproof surface is clean and undamaged.
4.2 Commissioning steps
- After power-on, observe whether the paddle rotates normally.
- Gently press the paddle by hand to simulate material blocking and confirm that the output relay operates.
- Adjust the sensitivity spring (if any) so that the operating torque meets the on-site material density requirements.
- After confirming everything is correct, tighten the adjusting nut and restore the explosion-proof enclosure.
5. Explosion-Proof Operating Precautions
- It is strictly prohibited to open the cover while energized in a hazardous area; operation must be performed after power-off.
- Regularly inspect the flameproof surface for scratches or corrosion, and apply anti-rust grease.
- When replacing parts, original factory explosion-proof certified accessories must be used.
- The cable entry device must use a sealing joint that meets explosion-proof requirements.
6. Common Faults and Troubleshooting
| Fault symptom | Possible cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Paddle does not rotate | Power not connected or motor damaged | Check power supply, replace motor |
| No output signal | Micro switch damaged or loose wiring | Replace switch, reconnect wiring |
| Paddle jammed | Material caking or foreign object stuck | Clean material, inspect paddle |
| Flameproof surface corroded | Humid environment or no anti-rust oil applied | Clean and apply anti-rust grease |
7. Maintenance and Care
It is recommended to perform a regular inspection every 6 months, including paddle wear, terminal tightening, and flameproof surface condition. In dusty environments, the inspection interval should be shortened. Before restarting after long-term shutdown, fully check insulation resistance and operation reliability.
