Product Overview
VEGAPULS Air 23 is a non-contact level transmitter based on 80GHz radar technology, specifically designed for the water and wastewater industry. Its compact structure, high protection rating, and Bluetooth commissioning function enable stable operation even in harsh environments.
Core Features
- 80GHz frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW), with an extremely small beam angle and strong anti-interference capability.
- Non-contact measurement, unaffected by medium density, viscosity, or temperature.
- Bluetooth wireless commissioning, parameter settings can be completed via smartphone or tablet.
- IP66/IP68 protection rating, suitable for outdoor and submerged applications.
- 4…20 mA / HART output, compatible with mainstream control systems.
Typical Applications
- Wastewater treatment plants: inlet pumping stations, digesters, sludge silos.
- Water treatment plants: clear water tanks, filter tanks, water towers.
- Industrial water circulation: cooling towers, reservoirs.
- Stormwater regulation: overflow weirs, stormwater tanks.

Installation Guide
Correct installation is key to ensuring measurement accuracy. Please follow the steps below.
- Select installation location: Avoid inlet ports, agitators, and tank walls, and ensure there are no fixed obstacles within the radar beam.
- Maintain safe distance: The distance between the instrument and the tank wall should be greater than the projection radius of the beam angle, generally recommended ≥ 200 mm.
- Vertical installation: The sensor axis should be as perpendicular as possible to the medium surface, with a tilt angle not exceeding ±3°.
- Avoid condensation: In condensation-prone locations, a sunshade or tilted installation can be added.
- Electrical connection: Connect the power and signal cables according to the wiring diagram in the manual, and pay attention to shielding layer grounding.
Commissioning and Operation
VEGAPULS Air 23 supports Bluetooth wireless commissioning, allowing quick setup via the VEGA Tools app.
Commissioning Steps
- Power on the instrument and confirm the status indicator is normal.
- Turn on the phone's Bluetooth and launch the VEGA Tools app.
- Scan and connect to the instrument, and enter the default password (see manual).
- Set the measuring range, output curve (linear/square root), and damping time.
- Save the parameters and exit, then observe whether the output current corresponds to the level.
Common Issues and Maintenance
- Fluctuating measured values: Check for interference from agitation, foam, or steam, and increase the damping time.
- Signal loss: Confirm that the dielectric constant of the medium is not lower than 1.8; otherwise, guided wave radar should be selected.
- Abnormal output current: Check the supply voltage and loop load resistance.
- Regular cleaning: Wipe the antenna surface with a soft cloth to avoid scaling affecting the signal.
