Promag 400 Electromagnetic Flowmeter Installation Guide
Correct installation of the Promag 400 electromagnetic flowmeter is crucial for measurement accuracy and equipment lifespan. Based on official technical materials, this article systematically outlines key points such as installation location, orientation, straight pipe sections, system pressure, vibration, and adapter pipes for the reference of engineering technicians and procurement personnel.
1. Installation Location
1.1 Downward Draining Pipes
When installing in a vertical downward pipe, if the pipe length h≥5 m, a siphon or drain valve must be installed downstream of the sensor to avoid damage to the measuring tube liner due to suction pressure, and to prevent long-term reduction in system accuracy.

1.2 Partially Filled Pipes
Inclined partially filled pipes require a drain outlet. It is recommended to enable the Empty Pipe Detection (EPD) function to detect empty or partially filled pipe conditions and provide additional protection.


2. Installation Orientation
Install according to the arrow direction on the sensor nameplate, and ensure that the arrow direction is consistent with the flow direction of the medium in the pipe. The optimal installation position should prevent gas and air accumulation and solid deposition in the measuring tube.

To ensure measurement accuracy, please ensure the following upstream and downstream straight pipe section lengths:

Do not install the sensor on the inlet side of the pump to avoid damage to the measuring tube liner due to suction pressure. When using piston pumps, diaphragm pumps, or peristaltic pumps, a pulsation flow buffer must be installed.

6. Adapter Pipes
When the sensor needs to be installed in a large-diameter pipe, adapter pipes (double-flange reducers) conforming to the DIN EN 545 standard can be selected. When measuring extremely slow-flowing fluids, reducers can increase the flow velocity and improve measurement accuracy. Refer to the figure below to calculate the pressure loss of the system after using reducers and expanders: calculate the diameter ratio d/D, and based on the flow velocity (at the downstream of the reducer) and the diameter ratio d/D, refer to the figure below to calculate the pressure loss.
